Pakarklės forest
Pakarklė Forest – one of the most interesting areas in the Panemunė region. The Nemunas River slopes here reach up to 40 meters in height, and near Vilkija the elevation increases further, creating a vertical difference of about 60 meters from the lowest to the highest point. The river slope is cut by numerous deep stream valleys, and at the top, you'll find a landscape that is partly dune-like and partly moraine-type terrain.
The forest is dry (with almost no swamps) and has a dense trail network. Runability ranges from good to moderate. Vegetation is very diverse – there are both deciduous and coniferous trees, including areas of coniferous trees with undergrowth. In some places, spruces have died due to the bark beetle (Ips typographus), resulting in several clear-cuts and fallen trees in parts of the forest.
Hazards: the road leading to the garden allotments.
The map scale will be 1:10,000 or 1:7,500 for participants aged 55 and above.
Contour interval: 5 meters.
